English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via al-Hasan al-Basri — that Ibn 'Abbas addressed the people at the end of Ramadan and said: 'O people of Basra, pay the zakat of your fasting.' The people began looking at one another. He said: 'Whoever among the people of Madinah is here — stand up and teach your brethren, for they do not know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prescribed the charity of Ramadan [Zakat al-Fitr] as half a sa' of wheat, or one sa' of barley, or one sa' of dates — for the slave and the free, the male and the female.'
