English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Hisham ibn Ishaq ibn 'Abdullah ibn Kinanah, from his father — that an amir sent him to Ibn 'Abbas to ask about the prayer for rain [istisqa']. Ibn 'Abbas said: 'What stopped him from asking me himself?' He said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out in humility, modesty, reverence, calmly and humbly [supplicating], and prayed two rak'ahs as he would pray on Eid — he did not give a sermon like your [current] sermons.'
