Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ جَاءَ
رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ أَبَلَغَكَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَحْمِلُ الْخَلَائِقَ عَلَى أُصْبُعٍ وَالسَّمَوَاتِ عَلَى أُصْبُعٍ وَالْأَرَضِينَ عَلَى أُصْبُعٍ وَالشَّجَرَ عَلَى أُصْبُعٍ وَالثَّرَى عَلَى أُصْبُعٍ فَضَحِكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى بَدَتْ نَوَاجِذُهُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { وَمَا قَدَرُوا اللَّهَ حَقَّ قَدْرِهِ } الْآيَةَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that 'Abdullah said: 'A man from the People of the Book came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Abu al-Qasim, has it reached you that Allah (عز وجل) holds all creatures on a finger, and the heavens on a finger, and the earths on a finger, and the trees on a finger, and the soil [thara] on a finger? the Prophet ﷺ laughed until his back teeth [nawajidh] became visible. Then Allah (عز وجل) revealed: And they have not appraised Allah with His true appraisal [39:67] — the verse.'
