Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أَنَّهُ قَرَأَ سُورَةَ يُوسُفَ بِحِمْصَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مَا هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ فَدَنَا مِنْهُ عَبْدُ اللَّه
ِ فَوَجَدَ مِنْهُ رِيحَ الْخَمْرِ فَقَالَ أَتُكَذِّبُ بِالْحَقِّ وَتَشْرَبُ الرِّجْسَ لَا أَدَعُكَ حَتَّى أَجْلِدَكَ حَدًّا قَالَ فَضَرَبَهُ الْحَدَّ وَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَهَكَذَا أَقْرَأَنِيهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from 'Alqama — that he said: '[Ibn Mas'ud] recited Surah Yusuf at Hims [Homs]. A man said: It was not revealed like this! 'Abdullah drew near him and detected the smell of wine on him. He said: You are denying the truth and drinking filth [al-rijs]? I will not release you until I flog you the hadd [prescribed punishment]. He flogged him the hadd. Then he said: By Allah, this is exactly how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught it to me.'
