Hadith #209

قَالَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَلَّهُ أَفْرَحُ بِتَوْبَةِ أَحَدِكُمْ مِنْ رَجُلٍ خَرَجَ بِأَرْضٍ دَوِّيَّةٍ مَهْلَكَةٍ مَعَهُ رَاحِلَتُهُ عَلَيْهَا طَعَامُهُ وَشَرَابُهُ وَزَادُهُ وَمَا يُصْلِحُهُ فَأَضَلَّهَا فَخَرَجَ فِي طَلَبِهَا حَتَّى إِذَا أَدْرَكَهُ الْمَوْتُ فَلَمْ يَجِدْهَا قَالَ أَرْجِعُ إِلَى مَكَانِي الَّذِي أَضْلَلْتُهَا فِيهِ فَأَمُوتُ فِيهِ قَالَ فَأَتَى مَكَانَهُ فَغَلَبَتْهُ عَيْنُهُ فَاسْتَيْقَظَ فَإِذَا رَاحِلَتُهُ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ عَلَيْهَا طَعَامُهُ وَشَرَابُهُ وَزَادُهُ وَمَا يُصْلِحُهُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ عُمَارَةَ عَنْ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ مِثْلَهُ
English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Allah is more delighted at the repentance of one of you than a man who sets out in a desolate, deadly land with his mount carrying his food, drink, provision, and all that he needs — then loses it. He goes searching for it until, when death is about to overtake him and he has not found it, he says: I will return to the place where I lost it and die there. He comes to his place, sleep overcomes him, and when he wakes up — there is his mount beside his head, carrying his food, drink, provision, and all that he needs.' — [Also narrated via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from 'Umara, from al-Aswad, from 'Abdullah with the same meaning.]
