English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Amr ibn Muhammad Abu Sa'id al-'Anqazi, from Isra'il; and via Aswad ibn 'Amir, from Isra'il; and via Abu Nu'aym, from Isra'il — all from Mukhariq, from Tariq ibn Shihab — that 'Abdullah said: 'I witnessed from al-Miqdad ibn al-Aswad a stance that I would rather have been the one in his place more than [anything] the world could be weighed against. He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was calling [in supplication] against the polytheists, and said: By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, we will not say as the Children of Israel said to Moses: "Go, you and your Lord, and fight — we will remain sitting here" [5:24]. Rather, we will fight to your right and to your left, before you and behind you! And I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ light up, and that pleased him.' [Aswad said in his version: 'I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ light up at that, and it pleased him.' Abu Nu'aym said in his version: 'I saw the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ shine, and that pleased him.']
