Hadith #279

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ عَنْ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْيَشْكُرِيِّ عَنْ الْمَعْرُورِ بْنِ سُوَيْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ حَبِيبَةَ ابْنَةُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ اللَّهُمَّ أَمْتِعْنِي بِزَوْجِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَبِأَبِي أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَبِأَخِي مُعَاوِيَةَ قَالَ فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّكِ سَأَلْتِ اللَّهَ لِآجَالٍ مَضْرُوبَةٍ وَأَيَّامٍ م
َعْدُودَةٍ وَأَرْزَاقٍ مَقْسُومَةٍ لَنْ يُعَجَّلَ شَيْءٌ قَبْلَ حِلِّهِ أَوْ يُؤَخَّرَ شَيْءٌ عَنْ حِلِّهِ وَلَوْ كُنْتِ سَأَلْتِ اللَّهَ أَنْ يُعِيذَكِ مِنْ عَذَابٍ فِي النَّارِ وَعَذَابٍ فِي الْقَبْرِ كَانَ أَخْيَرَ أَوْ أَفْضَلَ قَالَ وَذُكِرَ عِنْدَهُ الْقِرَدَةُ قَالَ مِسْعَرٌ أُرَاهُ قَالَ وَالْخَنَازِيرُ إِنَّهُ مِمَّا مُسِخَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَمْ يَمْسَخْ شَيْئًا فَيَدَعَ لَهُ نَسْلًا أَوْ عَاقِبَةً وَقَدْ كَانَتْ الْقِرَدَةُ أَوْ الْخَنَازِيرُ قَبْلَ ذَلِكَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Waki', from Mis'ar, from 'Alqama ibn Marthad, from al-Mughira ibn 'Abdillah al-Yashkuri, from al-Ma'rur ibn Suwayd — that 'Abdullah said: 'Umm Habiba bint Abi Sufyan said: O Allah, let me enjoy [the company of] my husband the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, my father Abu Sufyan, and my brother Mu'awiya! the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: You have asked Allah concerning fixed lifetimes, numbered days, and apportioned provisions — nothing will be hastened before its appointed time, nor delayed past it. If only you had asked Allah to protect you from punishment in the Fire and from punishment in the grave — that would have been better or more virtuous! [The narrator] said: Apes were mentioned in his presence. Mis'ar said: I believe he also said: And pigs — [saying they are] among those that were transformed [maskh]. the Prophet ﷺ said: Allah does not transform something and then leave it with offspring or descendants. The apes — or pigs — already existed before that [transformation].'
