English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yazid, from al-Mas'udi, from 'Asim, from Abi Wa'il — that [Abi Wa'il] said: 'When Ibn al-Nawwaha was killed, 'Abdullah said: This man and Ibn Uthal had come to the Prophet ﷺ as envoys of Musaylima the Liar. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them: Do you both testify that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? They said: We testify that Musaylima is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He said: Were I one who kills an envoy, I would have struck your necks. And so it became an established precedent that envoys are not killed. As for Ibn Uthal — Allah (عز وجل) sufficed us against him. And as for this one [Ibn al-Nawwaha] — he continued [in his disbelief] until Allah gave [us] power over him now.'
