حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى الْجَابِرُ أَبُو الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيُّ أَنَّ أَبَا مَاجدٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي حَنِيفَةَ حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ سَأَلْنَا نَبِيّ
َنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ السَّيْرِ بِالْجِنَازَةِ فَقَالَ السَّيْرُ مَا دُونَ الْخَبَبِ فَإِنْ يَكُ خَيْرًا تُعْجَلْ إِلَيْهِ أَوْ قَالَ لِتُعْجَلْ إِلَيْهِ وَإِنْ يَكُ سِوَى ذَاكَ فَبُعْدًا لِأَهْلِ النَّارِ الْجِنَازَةُ مَتْبُوعَةٌ وَلَا تَتْبَعُ لَيْسَ مِنَّا مَنْ تَقَدَّمَهَا

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Kamil, from Zuhayr, from Yahya al-Jabir Abu al-Harith al-Taymi, from Abu Majid — a man of Banu Hanifa — that he said: ''Abdullah ibn Mas'ud said: We asked our Prophet (ﷺ) about the pace of walking in a funeral procession. He said: The pace is below a trot [al-khabab]. If [the deceased] is a good person, bring him quickly [to his resting place] — or he said: so that he may be brought quickly to it. And if otherwise — away with the people of the Fire! The funeral bier is to be followed, not to follow [others]. He is not one of us who walks ahead of it.'
