English Translation
Khalaf ibn al-Walid narrated to us, Khalid narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Shaqiq ibn Salamah, from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud رضي الله عنه who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ encouraged us regarding charity. So a man went to his family and then came back and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have such and such amount. Then another man came and said: O Messenger of Allah, I have such and such. Then the face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lit up, and he said: 'Whoever establishes a good precedent in Islam will have its reward and the reward of those who act upon it after him, without anything being diminished from their rewards. And whoever establishes an evil precedent in Islam will bear its burden and the burden of those who act upon it after him, without anything being diminished from their burdens.'
