Hadith #495
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا أَسْوَدُ أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنِ ابْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ وَالْأَسْوَدِ أَنَّهُمَا كَانَا مَعَ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ فَحَضَرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ فَتَأَخَّرَ عَلْقَمَةُ وَالْأَسْوَدُ فَأَخَذَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ بِأَيْدِيهِمَا فَأَقَامَ أَحَدَهُ
مَا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَالْآخَرَ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَا فَوَضَعَا أَيْدِيَهُمَا عَلَى رُكَبِهِمَا وَضَرَبَ أَيْدِيَهُمَا ثُمَّ طَبَّقَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ وَشَبَّكَ وَجَعَلَهُمَا بَيْنَ فَخِذَيْهِ وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعَلَهُ حَدَّثَنَاه حُسَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ وَعَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ قَيْسٍ فَذَكَرَهُ

English Translation
Aswad narrated to us, Isra'il informed us, from Abu Ishaq, from Ibn al-Aswad, from 'Alqamah and al-Aswad, that they were with Ibn Mas'ud when the time for prayer came. 'Alqamah and al-Aswad stepped back, and 'Abdullah put them forward and placed one on his right and one on his left, then he prayed. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When three people are together, let one of them lead them in prayer, and the most entitled to lead the prayer is the one who is most proficient in recitation.'
