English Translation
Aswad ibn 'Amir narrated to us, Isra'il informed us, from Abu Ishaq, from Khumayr ibn Malik who said: The masahif (written copies of the Quran) were ordered to be altered (referring to the standardization under 'Uthman). Ibn Mas'ud said: 'Whoever among you is able to safeguard his mushaf, let him safeguard it, for whoever conceals something will come with what he concealed on the Day of Resurrection.' Then he said: 'I took it from the mouth of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — seventy surahs — while Zayd ibn Thabit was still a boy with two braids playing with the other boys.'
