حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ وَعَفَّانُ الْمَعْنَى قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ عَفَّانُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ابْتَعَثَ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِإِدْخَالِ رَجُلٍ إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ فَدَخَلَ الْكَنِيسَةَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِيَهُودَ وَإِذَا يَهُودِيٌّ يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْهِمْ التَّوْرَاةَ فَلَمَّا أَتَوْا عَلَى صِفَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْسَكُوا وَفِي نَاحِيَتِهَا رَجُلٌ مَرِيضٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِ
يُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَكُمْ أَمْسَكْتُمْ قَالَ الْمَرِيضُ إِنَّهُمْ أَتَوْا عَلَى صِفَةِ نَبِيٍّ فَأَمْسَكُوا ثُمَّ جَاءَ الْمَرِيضُ يَحْبُو حَتَّى أَخَذَ التَّوْرَاةَ فَقَرَأَ حَتَّى أَتَى عَلَى صِفَةِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأُمَّتِهِ فَقَالَ هَذِهِ صِفَتُكَ وَصِفَةُ أُمَّتِكَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَأَنَّكَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ مَاتَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ لُوا أَخَاكُمْ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Rawh and 'Affan, from Hammad ibn Salama, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Abi 'Ubayda ibn 'Abdillah ibn Mas'ud ('Affan says: from his father Ibn Mas'ud) — that he said: 'Indeed Allah (عز وجل) sent His Prophet (ﷺ) to bring a certain man to Paradise. He entered a synagogue and found it full of Jews, with one Jew reading the Torah to them. When they reached the description of the Prophet ﷺ, they stopped. In a corner was a sick man. the Prophet ﷺ said: Why have you stopped? The sick man said: They reached the description of a prophet, so they stopped. Then the sick man crawled until he took the Torah and read until he reached the description of the Prophet ﷺ and his ummah. He said: This is your description and the description of your ummah. I testify that there is no god but Allah and that you are the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then he died. the Prophet ﷺ said to his companions: Wash your brother.'
