English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya ibn Adam, from Zuhayr, from Abi Ishaq — [Abu Ishaq said: it was not Abu 'Ubayda who mentioned it, but 'Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Aswad, from his father] — that he heard 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud say: 'the Prophet ﷺ went to relieve himself and commanded me to bring him three stones. I found two stones but could not find the third, so I picked up a piece of dried dung and brought all three to the Prophet ﷺ. He took the two stones, threw away the dried dung, and said: This is filth [riks].' — [A second chain] via Yahya ibn Adam, from Sufyan — mentioning the tashahhud of 'Abdullah [Ibn Mas'ud] — via Abi Ishaq, from Abi al-Ahwas, from 'Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ — and [also] Mansur, al-A'mash, and Hammad, from Abi Wa'il, from 'Abdullah, from the Prophet ﷺ — the same [tashahhud].
