English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ibn Jurayj, from Ya'la, from 'Ikrimah, freed slave of Ibn 'Abbas — that Ibn 'Abbas informed them: Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah's mother died while he was away from her. He came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, my mother has passed away while I was absent — will it benefit her if I give charity on her behalf?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'I take you as witness that my walled orchard [ha'it al-makhraf] is charity on her behalf.'
