Hadith #149

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from Sulayman — I heard Abu Wa'il say: 'Abdullah said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made a distribution [of spoils]. A man said: This is a distribution in which the face of Allah was not intended. I went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned it to him, and his face turned red — Shu'ba says: I think he also said: and he became angry — until I wished I had not told him. Shu'ba says: I think he said: May Allah have mercy on us and on Musa [Moses] — Shu'ba expressed doubt about that phrase — [and then said without any doubt:] He was harmed with more than this and he was patient; he was harmed with more than that and he was patient.'
