حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي فَزَارَةَ الْعَبْسِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَيْدٍ مَوْلَى عَمْرِو بْنِ حُرَيْثٍ عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ لَمَّا كَانَ لَيْلَةُ الْجِنِّ تَخَلَّفَ مِنْهُمْ رَجُلَانِ وَقَالَا نَشْهَدُ الْف
َجْرَ مَعَكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ لِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَعَكَ مَاءٌ قُلْتُ لَيْسَ مَعِي مَاءٌ وَلَكِنْ مَعِي إِدَاوَةٌ فِيهَا نَبِيذٌ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَمْرَةٌ طَيِّبَةٌ وَمَاءٌ طَهُورٌ فَتَوَضَّأَ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Razzaq, from Sufyan, from Abu Fazara al-'Absi — Abu Zayd, the client of 'Amr ibn Hurayth, narrated to us — from Ibn Mas'ud — that he said: 'On the night of the jinn, two of them stayed behind and said: We will attend the Fajr prayer with you, O Messenger of Allah. the Prophet ﷺ said to me: Do you have water? I said: I have no water, but I have a small flask [idawa] with nabidh [date-infused water] in it. the Prophet ﷺ said: A wholesome date and pure water — and he performed ablution with it.'
