English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Affan, from 'Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad, from al-Harith ibn Hasira, from al-Qasim ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from his father — that he said: 'I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day of Hunayn. The people turned and fled from him, but eighty men from the Muhajirin and Ansar stood firm with him. We stepped back about eighty paces without turning our backs [to the enemy] — and they are the ones upon whom Allah (عز وجل) sent down tranquility [al-sakina]. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was on his mule, pressing forward. His mule shied and he leaned to one side from the saddle. I said to him: "Rise up — may Allah raise you!" He said: "Hand me a handful of dust." He threw it in their [the enemy's] faces and their eyes were filled with dust. He then said: "Where are the Muhajirin and Ansar?" I said: "They are right there." He said: "Call out to them." I called out to them and they came, their swords in their right hands like shooting stars — and the polytheists turned their backs and fled.'
