English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Affan, from Hammad ibn Salama, from 'Asim ibn Bahdala, from Zirr ibn Hubaysh — that he said: 'We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the slope of a mountain. He was standing in prayer while we slept. Suddenly a snake passed by him. We woke up and he was saying: "That which kept it from you is the same that kept you from it." And Surah al-Mursalat [77] was revealed to him. I received it while it was fresh [and moist] from his mouth — or: his mouth was fresh [and moist] with it.'
