حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ عَنِ الْمُخَارِقِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَحْمَسِيِّ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ لَقَدْ شَهِدْتُ مِنْ الْمِقْدَادِ مَشْهَدًا لَأَنْ أَكُونَ أَنَا صَاحِبَهُ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِمَّا عَلَى الْ
أَرْضِ مِنْ شَيْءٍ قَالَ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَكَانَ رَجُلًا فَارِسًا قَالَ فَقَالَ أَبْشِرْ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ لَا نَقُولُ لَكَ كَمَا قَالَتْ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ لِمُوسَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ { اذْهَبْ أَنْتَ وَرَبُّكَ فَقَاتِلَا إِنَّا هَاهُنَا قَاعِدُونَ } وَلَكِنْ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ لَنَكُونَنَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيْكَ وَعَنْ يَمِينِكَ وَعَنْ شِمَالِكَ وَمِنْ خَلْفِكَ حَتَّى يَفْتَحَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abida ibn Humayd, from al-Mukhariq ibn 'Abdillah al-Ahmasi, from Tariq ibn Shihab — that he said: 'I witnessed a stance from al-Miqdad that I would love to have been the one beside him more than anything in the world. He came to the Prophet ﷺ — and he was a horseman — and said: "Rejoice, O Prophet of Allah! By Allah, we will not say to you as the Children of Israel said to Moses (عليه السلام): 'Go, you and your Lord, and fight — we shall remain sitting here' [5:24]. Rather, by the One Who sent you with the truth, we will certainly be in front of you, to your right, to your left, and behind you — until Allah grants you victory."'
