English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Affan, from Hammad ibn Salama, from 'Asim ibn Bahdala, from Zirr ibn Hubaysh — that he said: 'I was a young lad tending the flocks of 'Uqba ibn Abi Mu'ayt. the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr (رضي الله عنه) came — they had fled from the polytheists — and said: "O boy, do you have any milk to give us to drink?" I said: "I have been entrusted [with these animals] and I will not give you to drink." the Prophet ﷺ said: "Do you have a young she-goat not yet mounted by a ram?" I said: "Yes." I brought it to them. the Prophet ﷺ restrained it, wiped its udder, and called upon Allah — and the udder filled up. Then Abu Bakr brought a concave rock, and [the Prophet ﷺ] milked into it. He drank, Abu Bakr drank, then I drank. He then said to the udder: "Shrink back!" and it shrank back. I came to him afterwards and said: "Teach me from this invocation." He said: "You are a boy who will be taught." Then I received seventy surahs directly from his mouth, and no one disputes me in them.'
