English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Waki' and Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Abi Wa'il — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Beware of lying, for lying leads to wickedness [al-fujur] and wickedness leads to the Fire. A man keeps lying until he is recorded by Allah as a habitual liar.' And he said: 'Adhere to truthfulness, for truthfulness leads to righteousness [al-birr] and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man keeps telling the truth and striving for truthfulness until he is recorded by Allah as profoundly truthful [siddiq].' Abu Mu'awiya [adds]: 'And a man keeps telling the truth and striving for truthfulness [continued in the same way].'
