English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah (رضي الله عنه) — via Waki', from al-A'mash, from 'Abdillah ibn Murra, from Abi al-Ahwas — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed I declare myself free from every close friendship [khulla — between any person and another]. Had I taken anyone as my intimate friend [khalil], I would have taken Abu Bakr [as my khalil]. Indeed your companion [Muhammad] is the intimate friend [khalil] of Allah (عز وجل).'
