English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid, from Hammam ibn Yahya, from Qatada, from Abu al-Hakam al-Bajali — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever keeps a dog other than for guarding crops, livestock, or hunting — a qirat [of reward] is deducted from his deeds every day.' He [Abu al-Hakam] said: 'I asked Ibn 'Umar: what if the dog is in a house and I dislike [having it there]?' He said: 'That is on the owner of the house who owns it [the sin falls on the one who keeps it].'
