English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid, from Hammam, from Nafi' — that 'A'isha wanted to buy [the slave woman] Barira, but her owners refused to sell her unless the bond of clientage [al-wala'] would be theirs. 'A'isha mentioned this to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Buy her and free her — for the bond of clientage belongs to the one who paid the price.'
