حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَمْرٍو عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حَاطِبٍ أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُمْ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ وَقَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْقَلِيبِ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ يَا فُلَانُ يَا فُلَانُ هَ
لْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا أَمَا وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ الْآنَ لَيَسْمَعُونَ كَلَامِي قَالَ يَحْيَى فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ إِنَّهُ وَهِلَ إِنَّمَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاللَّهِ إِنَّهُمْ لَيَعْلَمُونَ الْآنَ أَنَّ الَّذِي كُنْتُ أَقُولُ لَهُمْ حَقًّا وَإِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ { إِنَّكَ لَا تُسْمِعُ الْمَوْتَى } { وَمَا أَنْتَ بِمُسْمِعٍ مَنْ فِي الْقُبُورِ }

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr, from Yahya ibn 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Hatib — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood over the well [al-qalib] at Badr and said: \"O so-and-so! O so-and-so! Did you find what your Lord promised to be true? By Allah, they are now hearing my words.\"' Yahya said: 'A'isha said: \"May Allah forgive Abu 'Abd al-Rahman — he made an error. What the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said was: \"By Allah, they now know that what I used to tell them was the truth.\" And Allah (تعالى) says: \"You cannot make the dead hear\" [27:80], and: \"You are not one who makes those in the graves hear\" [35:22].\"'
