English Translation
It was narrated — via 'Abd al-Razzaq, from Sufyan, from Isma'il ibn Umayya — a reliable person — from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — that he proposed marriage to the daughter of one of his relatives. The woman's mother favored Ibn 'Umar, while her father favored an orphan in his care. The father married her to that orphan. She came to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned the matter. the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Let women have a say in [the marriage of] their daughters.'
