English Translation
It was narrated — via Waki', from Ibn 'Awn, from Ziyad ibn Jubayr — that a man asked Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) about a man who vowed to fast a certain day, and that day fell on 'Eid al-Adha or 'Eid al-Fitr. Ibn 'Umar said: 'Allah commanded fulfilling vows, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade us from fasting this day [i.e., it presents a conflict — the matter is difficult].'
