Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ عَنْ كَثِيرِ بْنِ جُمْهَانَ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ ابْنَ عُمَرَ يَمْشِي فِي
الْوَادِي بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ وَلَا يَسْعَى فَقُلْتُ لَهُ فَقَالَ إِنْ أَسْعَ فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْعَى وَإِنْ أَمْشِ فَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَمْشِي وَأَنَا شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
It was narrated — via Waki', from his father, from 'Ata', from Kathir ibn Jumhan — that he said: 'I saw Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) walking in the valley between al-Safa and al-Marwa without performing sa'y [brisk walking]. I asked him about it and he said: "If I perform sa'y, I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform sa'y; and if I walk, I have seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ walk — and I am a very old man."'
