English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad ibn Ja'far, from Shu'ba, from 'Abd Rabbihi ibn Sa'id, from Nafi' — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever sells a date palm that has already been pollinated — its fruit belongs to the first seller. And whoever sells a slave who has property — that property belongs to his first master, unless the buyer stipulates [otherwise].' Shu'ba said: 'I then related the hadith of Ayyub from Nafi' to ['Abd Rabbihi] — that he had attributed the palm tree ruling to the Prophet ﷺ but the slave ruling to 'Umar. 'Abd Rabbihi said: "I know both together only from the Prophet ﷺ." Then on another occasion he related them both from the Prophet ﷺ without any doubt.'
