Hadith #217

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْأُمَوِيُّ عَنْ يَحْيَى يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعِيدٍ أَخْبَرَنِي نَافِعٌ أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُمْ أَنَّ جَارِيَةً كَانَتْ تَرْعَى لِآلِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ غَنَمًا لَهُمْ وَأَنَّهَا خَافَتْ عَلَى شَاةٍ مِنْ الْغَنَمِ أَنْ تَمُوتَ فَأَخَذَتْ حَجَرًا فَذَبَحَتْهَا بِهِ وَأَنَّ ذَلِكَ ذُكِرَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَمَرَهُمْ بِأَكْلِهَا
English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Umawi, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Nafi' — that a maidservant of the family of Ka'b ibn Malik al-Ansari was shepherding their sheep. She feared that one of the sheep would die, so she took a rock and slaughtered it with it. This was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, and he commanded them to eat it.
