English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Muhammad, from Shu'ba, from 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar, from Nafi' — that 'Umar had vowed to perform i'tikaf [spiritual retreat] for one day during the Jahiliyya. He asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this, and he commanded him to fulfill his i'tikaf.
