English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Husayn, from Khalaf, from Abu Janab, from his father — that he said: 'There was a palm trunk in the mosque against which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to lean his back on Fridays — or whenever he wished to address the people. They said: "Shall we not make something for you the height of your standing position, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "It is up to you." So they made him a minbar of three steps. When he sat upon it, the trunk moaned as a cow moans — in longing for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He embraced it and stroked it until it calmed down.'
