حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْهَاشِمِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ جَعْفَرٍ أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ دِينَارٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ
هُ اتَّخَذَ خَاتَمًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ فَلَبِسَهُ فَاتَّخَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَ الذَّهَبِ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أَلْبَسُ هَذَا الْخَاتَمَ وَإِنِّي لَنْ أَلْبَسَهُ أَبَدًا فَنَبَذَهُ فَنَبَذَ النَّاسُ خَوَاتِيمَهُمْ

English Translation
It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Sulayman ibn Dawud al-Hashimi, from Isma'il ibn Ja'far, from Ibn Dinar — from the Prophet ﷺ — that he made a ring of gold and wore it, and the people made rings of gold. Then the Prophet ﷺ stood and said: 'I used to wear this ring — and I will never wear it again.' Then he cast it away, and the people cast their rings away [as well].
