Hadith #239

English Translation

It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid ibn Harun, from 'Abd al-Malik, from Muslim ibn Yannaq — that he said: 'I was with 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar at the gathering of Banu 'Abdullah in Mecca when a young man passed by dragging his lower garment. He said: "Come here, young man." He came to him. He said: "Who are you?" He said: "I am one of Banu Bakr ibn Sa'd." He said: "Do you love that Allah look at you on the Day of Resurrection?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then raise your lower garment. For I heard Abu al-Qasim (ﷺ) say — with these two ears of mine" — and he pointed with his fingers toward his ears — "Whoever drags his lower garment seeking nothing but arrogance — Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection."'
