حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي السَّفَرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ قَالَ مَرَّ بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْ

هِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نُصْلِحُ خُصًّا لَنَا فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا قُلْنَا خُصًّا لَنَا وَهَى فَنَحْنُ نُصْلِحُهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَمَا إِنَّ الْأَمْرَ أَعْجَلُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Abu al-Safar — that he said: 'the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by us while we were repairing a shelter [khuss] of ours. He said: "What is this?" We said: "A shelter of ours that has become dilapidated and we are repairing it." He said: "The matter [of death] is nearer than that."'
