حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ أَخْبَرَنَا أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أ

َبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ مَثَلُ الَّذِي يَسْتَرِدُّ مَا وَهَبَ كَمَثَلِ الْكَلْبِ يَقِيءُ فَيَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ وَإِذَا اسْتَرَدَّ الْوَاهِبُ فَلْيُوقَفْ بِمَا اسْتَرَدَّ ثُمَّ لِيُرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ مَا وَهَبَ

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Abu Bakr al-Hanafi, from Usama ibn Zayd, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather — from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'The likeness of the one who takes back what he has given is like the dog that vomits then eats its vomit. And when the giver takes back [his gift], he should be made fully aware of what he is doing before he takes it.'
