حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَأَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَق
َالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ لِي ذَوِي أَرْحَامٍ أَصِلُ وَيَقْطَعُونِي وَأَعْفُو وَيَظْلِمُونَ وَأُحْسِنُ وَيُسِيئُونَ أَفَأُكَافِئُهُمْ قَالَ لَا إِذًا تُتْرَكُونَ جَمِيعًا وَلَكِنْ خُذْ بِالْفَضْلِ وَصِلْهُمْ فَإِنَّهُ لَنْ يَزَالَ مَعَكَ ظَهِيرٌ مِنْ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مَا كُنْتَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Yazid ibn Harun, from al-Hajjaj ibn Artah, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather — that a man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have relatives whom I maintain ties with but they cut me off, whom I pardon but they wrong me, whom I treat well but they treat me badly. Shall I repay them in kind?' He said: 'No — if you do that, all of you will be abandoned [without Allah's help]. Rather, take the virtuous path and maintain ties with them — for there will always be a supporter from Allah (عز وجل) with you as long as you are on that path.'
