English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Bahz, from Hammam, from Qatada, from Yazid the brother of Mutarrif — that he [Yazid] asked the Prophet ﷺ: 'In how many [days] should I recite the Quran?' He mentioned the hadith. Yahya said: He said: 'In seven [days] — no one truly comprehends it who reads it in less than three.' He said: 'And how should I fast?' He said: 'Fast three days of every month — one day from every ten — and the reward of nine days is written for you.' He said: 'I can do more.' He said: 'Then fast two days from every ten — and the reward of eight days is written for you' — [and they continued negotiating] until [they reached] five days [out of every ten].
