Hadith #287
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرٌ وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا فِطْرٌ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
إِنَّ الرَّحِمَ مُعَلَّقَةٌ بِالْعَرْشِ وَلَيْسَ الْوَاصِلُ بِالْمُكَافِئِ وَلَكِنَّ الْوَاصِلَ مَنْ إِذَا قَطَعَتْهُ رَحِمُهُ وَصَلَهَا قَالَ يَزِيدُ الْمُوَاصِلُ

English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Waki', from Fitr; and Yazid ibn Harun, from Fitr — from Mujahid — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed the [ties of] kinship are suspended from the Throne. The true maintainer is not the one who merely reciprocates [when treated well] — but the true maintainer is he who, when his kinship ties are severed [by others], reconnects them.' Yazid [ibn Harun] said in his version: 'al-muwasil [the one who maintains them].'
