English Translation
It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via 'Attab, from 'Abdullah [ibn al-Mubarak], from Usama ibn Zayd, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather — that in the year of the Conquest while [the Prophet ﷺ] was in Mecca, he heard him saying: 'Indeed Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, carrion, and swine.' It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what do you say about the fat of carrion? Ships are greased with it, hides are greased with it, and people use it for lighting.' He said: 'No — it is forbidden.' Then he said: 'May Allah curse the Jews! When Allah forbade them fat, they rendered it [melted it down], then sold it and ate its price.'
