English Translation

It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr (رضي الله عنهما) — via Ma'mar ibn Sulayman al-Raqqi, from al-Hajjaj, from 'Amr ibn Shu'ayb, from his father, from his grandfather — from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Whoever is mutilated [by his master] — or burned with fire — he is free and is the mawla [client/freedman] of Allah and His Messenger.' Then a man who had been castrated — called Sandar — was brought [to the Prophet ﷺ], and he freed him. Then [Sandar] came to Abu Bakr after the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and [Abu Bakr] treated him with kindness. Then he came to 'Umar after Abu Bakr, and ['Umar] treated him with kindness. Then he wished to travel to Egypt, and 'Umar wrote to 'Amr ibn al-'As: 'Treat him with kindness and honor the bequest of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning him.'
