English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Rimtha (رضي الله عنه) — via Hisham ibn 'Abd al-Malik and 'Affan, from 'Ubaydullah ibn Iyad, from Iyad — from Abu Rimtha, who said: 'I went with my father toward the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When I saw him, my father said to me: "Do you know who this is?" I said: "No." He said: "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." I was overcome with awe when he said that, for I had imagined the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to be unlike people. But there was a man with a wafra [hair reaching the earlobes] — 'Affan said in his version: having a wafra — and on it traces of henna, wearing two green garments. My father greeted him with salam, then we sat and talked for a while. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to my father: "Is this your son?" He said: "Yes — by the Lord of the Ka'ba." He said: "Truly?" He said: "I testify to it." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled laughing at the evident resemblance between me and my father, and at my father's oath about me. Then he said: "Indeed, he shall not be held accountable for you, nor shall you for him." He recited: {No soul shall bear the burden of another} [35:18]. Then he looked at something like a tumor between his shoulders and said [to the Prophet ﷺ]: "O Messenger of Allah, I am among the most skilled of physicians — shall I not treat it for you?" He said: "No — its physician is the One who created it."'
