English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Rimtha (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abdullah [ibn Ahmad], from Muhammad ibn Bakkar, from Qays ibn al-Rabi' al-Asadi, from Iyad ibn Laqit — from Abu Rimtha, who said: 'I went with my father when I was a boy and we came to a man sitting in the shade of his house at the time of midday heat, wearing two green garments, with hair of wafra length, and on his head traces of henna. My father said to me: "Do you know who this is?" I said: "No." He said: "This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." We spoke at length. My father said to him: "I am a man from a family of physicians. Show me what is on the inside of your shoulder — if it is a tumor, I will cut it; if it is something else, I will inform you." He said: "Its physician is the One who created it." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ then looked at me and said to him: "Is this your son?" He said: "I testify to it." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Look carefully at what you are saying." He said: "Yes — by the Lord of the Ka'ba." the Messenger of Allah ﷺ laughed at my resemblance to my father and at my father's oath about me. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "This one — he shall not be held accountable for you, nor shall you for him."'
