حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَ

يْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْوِصَالَ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ قَالَ إِنِّي لَسْتُ كَأَحَدٍ مِنْكُمْ إِنِّي أَبِيتُ يُطْعِمُنِي رَبِّي وَيَسْقِينِي

English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Sufyan, from Abu al-Zinad, from al-A'raj — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Beware of al-wisal [continuous fasting without breaking at iftar].' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, but you yourself practice wisal.' He said: 'I am not like any of you — I spend the night with my Lord; He feeds me and gives me drink.'
