حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَصَدَّقُوا قَالَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدِي دِينَارٌ قَالَ تَصَدَّقْ بِهِ عَلَى نَفْسِكَ قَالَ عِنْدِي دِينَارٌ آخَرُ قَالَ تَصَدَّقْ بِهِ عَلَ

English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Yahya, from Ibn 'Ajlan, from Sa'id — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Give charity.' A man said: 'I have one dinar.' He said: 'Spend it on yourself.' He said: 'I have another.' He said: 'Spend it on your wife.' He said: 'I have another.' He said: 'Spend it on your child.' He said: 'I have another.' He said: 'Spend it on your servant.' He said: 'I have another.' He said: 'You know best [where to give it — the choice is yours].'
