English Translation

It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via Abu Mu'awiya, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih — that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Three [types of people] — Allah will not speak to them, will not look at them, will not purify them, and for them is a painful punishment: a man who has surplus water in the wasteland [al-fala'] and withholds it from a wayfarer [ibn al-sabil]; a man who pledges allegiance to a ruler only for worldly gain — if he gives him from it, he fulfills [his pledge], but if he does not give him, he does not fulfill it; and a man who sells goods to another after 'Asr and swears to him by Allah: "I acquired it for such-and-such [price]" — and he [the buyer] believes him, when in fact he is lying about that.'
