English Translation
It was narrated from Abu Hurayra (رضي الله عنه) — via 'Abd al-Razzaq, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Thabit ibn Qays — that Abu Hurayra said: 'A strong wind struck the people on the road to Mecca while 'Umar ibn al-Khattab was on Hajj, and it intensified severely upon them. 'Umar asked those around him: "Who can tell us about the wind?" No one gave him anything [i.e., no hadith]. News reached me of what 'Umar had asked, so I spurred my mount until I caught up to him. I said: "O Amir al-Mu'minin, I was informed that you asked about the wind. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: \"The wind is from the rauh [mercy/breath] of Allah. It comes with mercy and it comes with punishment. When you see it, do not curse it — ask Allah for its good and seek refuge with Him from its evil.\""'
