Hadith #228
Arabic Text
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ مَرُّوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فِي مَنَاقِبِ الْخَيْرِ فَقَالَ
رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ مَرُّوا عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فِي مَنَاقِبِ الشَّرِّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَبَتْ إِنَّكُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Yazid narrated to us, Muhammad informed us, from Abu Salamah, from Abu Hurayrah (رضي الله عنه) who said: A funeral was brought past the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and they praised the deceased well, mentioning his good qualities. So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'It is confirmed.' Then another funeral was brought past and they spoke ill of the deceased. So the Prophet ﷺ said: 'It is confirmed.' Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) said: 'What is confirmed?' He (ﷺ) said: 'The one you praised well, Paradise is confirmed for him. And the one you spoke ill of, the Fire is confirmed for him. You are the witnesses of Allah on earth.'
