Hadith #123

English Translation

Zayd ibn al-Hubab narrated to us, al-Mustamir ibn al-Rayyan al-Zahrani narrated to me, Abu Nadrah narrated to us, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'I fear for you regarding what Allah will open up for you of the blessings and adornments of the world.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what are the blessings of the world?' He said: 'The bounties of the world.' Then a man asked him: 'Does good bring evil?' the Prophet ﷺ remained silent for a time until we thought revelation was descending upon him. Then he wiped the sweat from his forehead and said: 'Where is the questioner?' — as though he praised him — 'Indeed, good does not bring evil. But among what the spring causes to grow is that which kills by bloating or brings close to death, except the animal that eats al-khadir [green vegetation], and when its sides are full, it faces the sun and defecates and urinates, then chews its cud and returns to graze. Whoever takes this wealth rightfully, it will be blessed for him. And whoever takes it without right, he is like the one who eats but is never satisfied.'
